Being a professional musician is thrilling, rewarding, and filled with possibilities—and it’s also intense, challenging, and overflowing with potential pitfalls that can burn you out. In this workshop Karen Chhabra-Dhoot (MSW, RSW) will guide attendees in the ways we can work towards collective impact, wellness, reclaiming mental health ideologies and creating equitable spaces.

KAREN CHHABRA-DHOOT

Karen (she/her) is the founder of Continuing Connections, an organization based on the Syilx Okanagan Nation Territory, Kelowna, BC, dedicated to providing counseling services, workshops, and consultation.

 

With a commitment to mental health and wellness, Karen recognizes the unique challenges artists and musicians may experience and the need for safer spaces to discuss mental health and well being. Through Continuing Connections, Karen emphasizes the importance of identity exploration, coping strategies, safety, and exploring mental health holistically. 

 

With a focus on creating accessible and inclusive environments, Karen advocates for the importance of recognizing and addressing systems of oppression within the performing arts community with a collective goal of creating change.

 

In addition to her work with Continuing Connections, Karen is a curator with Sofar Sounds and has led and facilitated multiple mental health workshops. Through curating shows and leading workshops, she focuses on creating spaces for artistic expression and community connection. Through her experiences and compassionate approach, Karen strives to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can prioritize their mental health and well-being.
